How to Discover the Best Shenandoah National Park Waterfalls

Jones Run Falls
Begin your hike at the Jones Run Trail parking lot to embark on the most popular Shenandoah National Park waterfalls path. Along the way, you’ll spot a handful of waterfalls. If you choose to continue on to the Doyles River Trail, you can marvel at two larger cascades. Following both trails will add up to a round trip hike of about six miles, which can take up to four hours, depending on how long you choose to stay at the falls. If you’re on a romantic getaway, pack a picnic and spend the afternoon relaxing beside one of the smaller, less populated falls.
Dark Hollow Falls
When vacationing in the Shenandoah Valley, travelers must plan to see Skyline Drive, a windy, mountain road with breathtaking views of the valley. Just one mile away, you’ll discover the trail leading to Dark Hollow Falls. Another iconic hiking path, this route leads to some of the most spectacular cascades in the region. Gaze up at a 70-foot waterfall tucked in a small, hidden valley. In the summer, locals and visitors cool off in the nearby swimming hole.
Rose River Falls
Rose River Falls can be accessed from the bridge near Dark Hollow. Follow this loop to enjoy a more secluded area with additional waterfalls and romantic viewing spots. Relax in one of the natural swimming pools that allow for dramatic views of the surrounding cascades and rock formations. If you choose to hike both Dark Hollow and Rose River, it will take about six miles total, so be prepared for a long journey. But, the views and swimming areas are worth the trek.
