Union Station History

Union Station Restaurant and Bar call The Wetsel Seed Building home, after purchasing it in 2008. While the restaurant was created in the new millennium, the Union Station depot was built on the south side of the building in 1911 to serve the B&O Railroad line. This depot provided a place for passengers and residents for 30 years, until November 1, 1941. During the time the depot was active, many visitors would use the location for picnics and people-watching. The Chesapeake and Western Railroad company purchased the track from B&O Railroad and continued using the line throughout the state of Virginia. Come May 19, 1944, The Wetsel Seed Company purchased Union Station as an opportunity to expand their business. Little did they know, that just 64 years later, their original building would become a lovely restaurant named after the famous station they neighbored for years.
